Discover India! brings Indian Culture to life in Lincoln! Join us for an exciting weekend festival that will inspire both young and old with culture, history and performances! The festival will showcase local Massachusetts based talent such as musicians, dancers, writers, chefs and more! The festival, open to all residents of Lincoln, MA as well as the surrounding towns, will include a multi-faceted program in various selected local Lincoln venues and activities intended for diverse audiences.

1 pm – Matinee Showing of Movie Saptapadii |
LOCATION: Bemis Hall – 15 Bedford Road, Lincoln, MA
Join us for the matinee showing of the full-feature Gujarati movie with English subtitles (105 min.) followed by discussion and Q&A with Writer/Actor and Assistant to Director. PARKING INFO: Please feel free to park in the lot behind the stone church (called Parish House) and parking down Bedford Road is also allowed.
7 pm – Second Showing of Movie Saptapadii | LOCATION: Bemis Hall – 15 Bedford Road, Lincoln, MA
During the 7 pm showing try Mumbai Masala flavored Cobra Corn (all-natural Indian inspired popcorn) while enjoying the film!
Saptapadii is the story of how a wealthy Indian couple’s life and relationship is turned upside down when the husband learns that his wife’s attempt to cure a traumatized child while on vacation at a beautiful hill station can have disastrous consequences for his business and open up possibilities of independence for her. LOCATION: Brooks School Gym – 6 Ballfield Road, Lincoln, MA
Join us for all sorts of hands on arts and crafts for kids. All ages welcome. PARKING INFO: Plenty of free parking available on the school grounds.
Vendors from various local restaurants will showcase the best they have to offer. While eating fine Indian cuisine, enjoy the slide show "A World of Marvels" highlighting pictures of Indian life, ancient architecture and sculpture from 1986 to 2013. (No entrance fee, but fee for food. Vendors at the festival accept CASH ONLY to reduce lines and expedite attendee wait times.) PARKING INFO: Plenty of free parking available on the school grounds.
2:30 pm to 3:30 pm – Indian Folk & Classical Dance Performances | LOCATION: Bemis Hall – 15 Bedford Road, Lincoln, MA
Join us for scintillating performances of both Indian Folk and Classical dances. PARKING INFO: Please feel free to park in the lot behind the stone church (called Parish House) and parking down Bedford Road is also allowed.
3:30 pm to 5:00 pm – Finding 'India' in India's Contemporary Art | LOCATION: deCordova Sculpture Park and Museum – 51 Sandy Pond Road, Lincoln, MA
For this special weekend celebration of India, Susan S. Bean, curator of the recent exhibition Midnight to the Boom: Painting in India after Independence, looks at how some leading contemporary Indian artists deploy painting and installation to probe Indian experience.
3:45 pm to 4:45 pm – Interactive Odissi Classical Dance Workshop for Kids | LOCATION: Lincoln Public Library – 3 Bedford Road, Lincoln, MA
An introduction to one of the oldest forms of Indian Classical Dancing, based on story telling through hands, body movements and expression, tailor made to be fun and exciting for small children. (Ages 2 and up). PARKING INFO: Parking down Bedford Road is allowed if limited Library parking fills up.
6:30 pm to 8:30 pm – India, Nature, Culture, Conservation, & Social Hour | LOCATION: Bemis Hall – 15 Bedford Road, Lincoln, MA
Join a Mass Audubon staff scientist who has traveled to India and who will present a program on how nature and culture fuse in the Indian ethos. Additionally, learn about Indian conservation challenges and efforts and how they differ from the US. Enjoy Indian delicacies and refreshments (cash bar opens at 6:30 pm, program to follow at 7 pm). 1 pm to 3:30 pm – Indian Cooking Class & Luncheon | LOCATION: St. Anne’s in-the-Fields Episcopal Church – 147 Concord Road, Lincoln, MA
Join a master Indian chef, Shruti Mehta reveal her secrets in the kitchen so you can bring them to yours! $20 Fee for class & luncheon – begins at 1 pm. $15 fee for luncheon only – begins at 2:15 pm. Discover India! Folk Art Exhibit | LOCATION: Cambridge Trust Company – 152 Lincoln Road, Lincoln, MA
From October 1 through October 19, come view original works of Madhubani or Mithila painting - the colorful folk art of North India – traditionally practiced by women, depicting folklore from Indian mythologies. Discover India! Film Series - Beyond Bollywood: The Many Faces of Indian Art Cinema |

The film series will run every Tuesday in October (1, 8, 15, 22, 29 at 7 pm). Film titles by date are listed below. The free screenings will take place at 7pm in the Tarbell Room (upstairs, to the right). Coffee and snacks will be provided.
